Kochi Biennale & Theyyam in Kannur

In February, Kerala unfurls a side of itself that feels almost dreamlike — where coastal towns transform into open air galleries and village temples ignite with colour, fire, and rhythm. It is a season of striking contrasts, when the contemporary brilliance of the Kochi- Muziris Biennale converges with the ancient mysticism of Theyyam in Kannur, offering an experience that feels both modern and timeless.

In Kochi, the Biennale turns the historic spice port into a living, breathing canvas. Installations rise within century old warehouses, murals bloom across colonial facades, and artists from across the globe gather to spark dialogue through bold, immersive works. Walking through Fort Kochi feels surreal — history whispers from weathered walls while avant-garde art compels you to pause, reflect, and wonder. The cafés, galleries, and narrow lanes thrum with creativity, each corner revealing an unexpected encounter with imagination and beauty.

Further north, in the heartland of Malabar, the drama intensifies with Theyyam — a spectacle that dissolves the line between human and divine. Deities descend to earth through dancers transformed into living gods, their towering headdresses aflame with colour, their faces fierce with sacred paint, their movements guided by centuries of ritual. Under flickering firelight and the thunder of drums, entire villages gather in reverence as myths are not merely told but embodied. It is raw, hypnotic, and transcendent — more than a performance, it is a cosmic dialogue between mortals and immortals.

When we began mapping our 2026 calendar and saw that the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the Theyyam season would coincide, we knew it was the perfect moment to create a journey that weaves together Kerala’s two most extraordinary offerings.

While the Biennale itinerary will only be revealed when the festival opens on December 12th — with guided walks, unhurried hours among the artwork, and space for discovery — and the Theyyam schedule too will be announced closer to the time, we already know this trip will be a luminous blend of art, ritual, and flavour.

Yes, some details are still fluid, but what remains certain is the invitation: to join WeGoBond in exploring Kerala’s grand tapestry of creativity and tradition, in the company of a small circle of like- minded women, crafting memories that will echo long after the last drumbeat and brushstroke have faded.

  • Witness the Kochi-Muziris Biennale — Asia’s largest contemporary art festival, with cutting-edge installations, performances, and global artists transforming Kochi into an open-air gallery.
  • Experience the Theyyam Festival in Kannur — an ancient, powerful ritual art formwhere divine incarnations come alive in vibrant costumes, trance-like dances, and hypnotic drumbeats.
  • Immerse in Kerala’s Cultural Soul — a rare blend of avant garde global art and- centuries-old sacred traditions in a single journey.
  • Explore Fort Kochi’s Charm — walk through its colonial streets, spice-scented bazaars, cafés, and art-lined walls.
  • Stay at Neemrana’s Tower House in Fort Kochi — a boutique heritage retreat where warmth meets comfort, and the Biennale installations lie just a few steps away.
  • Travel in a Small Group of 8–12 Ladies — creating camaraderie, shared stories, and a more intimate experience.
