Welcome to the Land of the Dawn-Lit Mountains.

Arunachal Pradesh remains one of India’s last great frontiers — a place where towering mountains rise out of deep valleys, rivers cut through dense forests, and ancient Buddhist traditions continue to shape life in remote Himalayan settlements.

Scattered across this dramatic landscape are communities that have preserved their cultures and rhythms for centuries. Monasteries sit quietly on mountain ridges, prayer flags flutter across high passes, and small villages appear unexpectedly in wide, beautiful valleys.

Our journey through Western Arunachal Pradesh is designed not as a rushed sightseeing trip, but as a true Himalayan road journey. Much of the magic here lies in the drives themselves — winding mountain roads that slowly reveal waterfalls, alpine forests, prayer-flag lined passes, and spectacular Himalayan panoramas.

To ensure the journey remains comfortable and enjoyable, we travel in Innovas with only three women per car. This allows us to move at a relaxed pace, stop for photographs, and truly absorb the landscapes along the way.

The journey begins in the wild grasslands of Kaziranga National Park, one of India’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. From there we gradually climb into the mountains of Arunachal, passing through the peaceful valleys of Dirang before reaching Tawang, a remote Himalayan town that is home to one of the most important monasteries in Tibetan Buddhism.

For many years, accommodation in this remote region was simple. However, with the opening of Vivanta Tawang by Taj, the region now offers its first truly upscale stay. Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, it allows us to experience Arunachal’s wilderness without compromising on comfort.

From wildlife safaris and high mountain passes to remote monasteries and serene valleys, this journey offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the most spectacular and least explored regions of India.

  • Kaziranga National Park Safaris
Begin the journey in the wild grasslands of Kaziranga, one of India’s finest wildlife reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, swamp deer and abundant birdlife.
  • A True Himalayan Road Journey
One of the most spectacular aspects of this trip is the journey itself. As we travel from the plains of Assam into the high mountains of Arunachal Pradesh, the landscapes transform dramatically — from forests and rivers to alpine valleys and high mountain passes.
  • Travel in Comfortable SUVs
To keep the journey comfortable and enjoyable, we travel in small SUVs with only three women per car. This allows us to navigate the mountain roads more easily, stop frequently for photographs, and travel at a relaxed pace.
  • Sangti Valley & Dirang
Discover one of Arunachal’s most beautiful valleys. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with traditional Monpa villages, Sangti Valley offers peaceful landscapes, wide river plains and a glimpse into the quiet rhythms of Himalayan life.
  • Cross the Spectacular Sela Pass
Drive across Sela Pass (13,700 ft) — one of India’s most breathtaking high-altitude mountain passes, where prayer flags flutter across snow-covered landscapes and glacial lakes appear along the road.
  • Tawang Monastery
Visit Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India and one of the most important centres of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. Perched dramatically on a mountain ridge, it is both spiritually and visually extraordinary.
  • High-Altitude Lakes of Tawang
Explore the beautiful alpine lakes surrounding Tawang, including the famous Madhuri Lake (Sangestar Tso), set amidst dramatic high-altitude landscapes.
  • Stay at Vivanta Tawang by Taj
Enjoy the comfort of the finest hotel in the region, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery — bringing a level of comfort that Arunachal travellers rarely experience.
  • Small, Intimate Travel Group
Travel with a group of 8–12 women, ensuring a relaxed, friendly and personal travel experience throughout the journey.
  • Trip Leadership
Every WeGoBond journey is accompanied by a dedicated trip lead, ensuring the logistics run smoothly so you can simply relax and enjoy the experience.
