Paradise on Earth-Mechuka

Arunachal, is the land of the Monpa and the Mishmi, and hitherto mysterious but now familiar places like Dirang Dzong, Bomdila, Se La Tawang and Namdapha; all beautiful drives through hills covered by pristine jungle, now increasingly populated by tourists…

Mechuka is an unspoilt slice of heaven right about there.

A recent visitor has written that if she were a poet her verses would be all about this simple, stunning, emerald green, wreathed in clouds valley barely 30 kilometres from the Tibetan border. And she is right.

About a decade or so ago there were no roads to reach Mechuka and residents of the valley – the hospitable Memba Tribe would have to walk for a week to get here from the road head in Aalo.

Thankfully there is a rough road now and the picture post card views of snow-capped peaks, rushing rivers and evergreen forests – make the bumpy ride up well worth it.

Mechuka is still untouched by organised commercial tourism which is why Wegobond hoisted its flag here; to make it more of an adventure than a tour for our guests.

Make no mistake; it’s hard to reach Mechuka. But if you have a taste for the offbeat, a desire to test your own mettle and a thirst for adventure as well as the sublime, you won’t forget this journey for sure. Not in this life.

Our journey starts in Dibrugarh in Eastern Assam, which has direct flights to Delhi & Kolkata with onward connections to all major Indian cities. From Dibrugarh we take a long drive through plains and hills to Aalo (formerly known as Along).

Inhabited predominantly by the Galo tribe, Aalo is a scenic riverside town surrounded by picture perfect villages. After a day to rest and a chance to acquaint ourselves with the unfamiliar culture and religion of Arunachal with a visit to a Galo village, we shall hit the tough road to Mechuka.

We shall spend two leisurely days in this dreamscape taking long walks by the river, visiting the main Gompa as well as smaller shrines and trying the local Memba cuisine before heading back to Dibrugarh Airport via Aalo

(We will be taking a very small group of 8 ladies only, and if you would like to join us we request to speak with you once before confirming)

• Visit the villages of the local tribes- Galo, Memba and get acquainted with their customs, culture and lifestyle
• Climb up to the Samten Yongcha gompa
• Visit a small gurudwara which is believed to have been blessed by Guru Nanak.

• WeGoBond shall reschedule the Trip or any activity in the event of Force Majeure which includes, any act of God, riot, war, civil unrest, flood, earthquake, strike, picket, pandemic, epidemic, lockdowns, lock-out or other form of industrial action or threatened industrial action or other cause, including any mechanical, electronic, or communications failure. In this event we will only be able to issue a credit note for the trip and request you to reschedule the same trip.

NOTES

• The homestays in this area are clean, in a charming location – but very BASIC.
• We stay in the best places possible – but these best places are extremely basic. (Albeit incredibly safe. The main joy and cost of this trip comes from the travel to a far flung beauty and back)
• We may not always get twin sharing rooms, some may be double
• This one is a true adventure and you have to love travel and the offbeat to love this destination as much as we do (we started off our company to make travel to these off beat places possible!)
• We need minimum 8 confirmations to do this tour.

CANCELLATION POLICY

• Complete refund if cancelled 90 days prior to the actual trip
• 90 days – 60 days – Booking amount non-refundable, complete refund for the balance
• 60 days – 50 days – 75% refund of total amount
• 50 days – 30 days – 25% refund of total amount
• 30 days – 15 days – 10% refund of total amount
• 15 days – 0 – no refund

• All transport ex Dibrugarh till 17^th April 2022 (3 people to a car + driver)
• Entrance fee to all sites
• Separate local Guide in Along and a local guide in Mechuka
